Asirvanam Benedictine Monastery is a monastic community rooted in the ancient Benedictine tradition, where monks seek God through a life of prayer, work, silence, and hospitality. Down through the centuries, Benedictine monks have witnessed—through humble and dedicated service—that God is glorified in every task entrusted to human hands, whether manual or intellectual. At Asirvanam, this spirit continues to guide daily life and mission.
Faithful to the Rule of St. Benedict, the monks of Asirvanam strive to live a balanced life of Ora et Labora—prayer and work—responding generously to the needs of the Church and society. Their way of life is marked by simplicity, discipline, self-effacement, and a deep commitment to seeking God in all things.
In keeping with the Benedictine tradition of hospitality, Asirvanam has warmly welcomed priests, religious, and lay faithful, as well as people of other faiths from across India. The monastery’s Retreat House offers a serene environment for reflection and renewal and is well equipped with a chapel, conference hall, dining hall, and 60 guest rooms, allowing visitors to experience the silence and solitude that characterize monastic life.

Mindful of the words of Scripture—“Unless the Lord builds the house, in vain do its builders labour”—the monks humbly offer their efforts as a “widow’s mite” in witnessing to the enduring values of monastic life within a rapidly changing world. Amid its glories and failures, contradictions and possibilities, Asirvanam seeks to remain a place of prayer, discernment, and quiet strength.
With deep hope and trust in God’s grace, the monks move forward in the spirit of St. Benedict, “with hearts expanding, running the way of God’s commandments with unspeakable sweetness of love.” (Prologue, Rule of St. Benedict)
