St. Benedict’s Monastery, Passukadavu (Kerala)

St. Benedict’s Monastery, Passukadavu, located in the Diocese of Thamarassery, Kozhikode District, Kerala, is a daughter house of the Asirvanam Benedictine Congregation. Established to continue the rich Benedictine heritage in Kerala, the monastery faithfully lives according to the Rule of St. Benedict, guided by the timeless principle of “Ora et Labora” – Pray and Work.

St. Benedict’s Monastery also serves as a formation centre for future Benedictine monks and priests. Candidates who discern a call to monastic life undergo a well-defined formation process that includes postulancy, novitiate, philosophical and theological studies, and a period of regency. After completing theological studies, those called to the priesthood are ordained and continue their ministry in service of the Church.

The monastery warmly invites young men with SSLC or higher educational qualifications who feel called to a life of dedication, sacrifice, and service to consider Benedictine monastic life. Through prayerful discernment, personal guidance, and community support, candidates are helped to grow spiritually and humanly.

Rooted in silence, prayer, and simplicity, St. Benedict’s Monastery, Passukadavu, stands as a quiet yet powerful witness to the relevance of monastic life in today’s world. It continues to serve the Church in India by fostering vocations, deepening spiritual life, and offering a living testimony to the Benedictine values of faith, stability, obedience, and love of God.

The daughter houses of Asirvanam Benedictine Monastery thus remain vibrant centres of faith, shaping lives and communities through the enduring wisdom of St. Benedict.
