The Asirvanam Benedictine Retreat Centre, one of the oldest retreat centres in Bangalore, has been a place of prayer and spiritual refuge since its early beginnings. When the monastery community moved to Kengeri in 1957, many faithful expressed a deep desire to stay with the monks, share in their prayer life, and experience God in silence. Responding to this call, the monks established a small retreat house to accommodate twenty people. This humble beginning marked the birth of the Asirvanam Benedictine Retreat Centre.
Over the years, the retreat centre has grown, with new buildings and well-furnished rooms added to meet the needs of increasing numbers of seekers, while preserving the spirit of simplicity and silence.
To offer a deeper experience of solitude, the monastery has constructed ten hermitages around the National Shrine of St. Benedict, creating a true oasis for those seeking God in silence. Situated within the peaceful campus of the Asirvanam Monastery, these hermitages provide an ideal setting for:
Each hermitage allows the retreatant to “enter one’s own cave,” following the ancient monastic tradition of seeking God in solitude.

The hermitages are located within the monastery’s hundred-acre silent campus, whose natural serenity supports deep prayer and recollection. Retreatants are invited to participate in the monastic rhythm, including the Divine Office, where the Gregorian chants of the monks fill the campus with a profound spiritual atmosphere.
The monastery also undertakes guided retreats for:
Guidance is offered in a spirit of discretion, silence, and attentive listening.
Both personal and group retreats in the hermitages are available.
As availability is limited, early booking is strongly recommended to ensure your preferred dates.
