Vocation

Discover a Life Rooted in Prayer, Community, and Service

The Asirvanam Benedictine Monastery invites men who are sincerely seeking God to discern a vocation to the Benedictine monastic life, inspired by the Gospel of Jesus Christ and guided by the Rule of St. Benedict.

Monastic life is a journey of faith marked by prayer, work, silence, and community living. It is a call to follow Christ wholeheartedly, responding generously to God’s invitation in the context of the Church and the needs of the world today.

Who is St. Benedict?

St. Benedict of Nursia (c. 480–547 AD), the Father of Western Monasticism, gave the Church a balanced and life-giving spiritual path through his Rule. His wisdom continues to guide Benedictine communities across the world.

At the heart of his teaching is the simple yet profound principle:

Ora et Labora – Pray and Work

What is Benedictine Life?

Benedictine monastic life is centered on:

Prayer – Personal and communal prayer, especially the Liturgy of the Hours
Work – Manual and intellectual work as a participation in God’s creation
Community Life – Living as brothers, sharing life, faith, and responsibilities
Stability – Commitment to one monastery and one community
Silence & Listening – Creating space to hear God’s voice
Hospitality – Welcoming every guest as Christ Himself

This way of life forms monks who are rooted in God, balanced in living, and open to serving others.
